YOU CAN BE WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BE

It’s day 6 and it’s my day. I’m so blessed to be a part of Auli’s inspiration week journey, along with other bloggers. Today we would be talking about how ‘You can be whatever you want to be’. I know this is a lil different from what I post but I hope you enjoy it.

Life is full of choices and whatever path you decide to take is up to you. No one is meant to make decisions for you and if any one does, it’s still up to you to follow their directions or not. In most parts of Africa as young people we are being subjected to the fact that our parents/elders are always right, so we are to do exactly as they prescribe, mostly when it comes to our career.

This notion is very wrong and also very toxic, because it always ends up affecting the child. There is always a 70/30 chance that the child ends up living in regret, depression or being unsuccessful. One of the common causes of un-success in schools is due to the fact that the student was pushed into doing a course they lack interest in.

I remember when I was entering university and my dad was really pushing me to study computer science because I got an A in ICT and I’m a techy person. Firstly I was never in science class and I told him no, that it wasn’t what I see myself doing, even in a million years. If you’ve met me, you would know that a 9-5 job is not for me. I want to be a Model/Presenter/Entrepreneur. I’m currently studying Mass communication and my father still acts like he has no idea what I’m doing in the university and tells me to change course.

But I know me and I know what I can handle. I know that if I studied Computer science I probably might be flunking it. That’s me flunking 4years and ending up a waste of school fees. >God forbid<

Most of the people who end up changing their goals/ life choices due to the voice of other people end up very unhappy. I can imagine looking out my office window after years of computer science, horrible cups of coffee, bad manicure and an annoying boss, to see a bill board advert I could have scored 100 times better, or watching Fashion Week and leaving in that ‘Had I known’ moment, slowly dying inside.>ewww<

Look do you sweet heart in every situation. Avoid having that ‘Had I known’ moment in future. Know who you are, what you want to do & achieve in life, you could want to be an astronaut, a singer, doctor, journalist, entrepreneur, a talkative, Instagram celebrity; whatever it is, you can be that person you want in life. Know what drives you to do these things, cause that way you’ll keep going even when it’s tough.

No matter how many people are talking just stay focused & keep moving and you’ll get to that place you want to be.

This was awesome love. This spoke directly to me and it definitely gave me the inspiration I needed. I understand the aspect of our parents forcing their opinions on us because they are too stuck on the belief that old people are smarter than the young ones. I just believe every one should be their first priority, think of your happiness before anything else because you would face the outcome of the choices you make all on your own.

I for one used to think I wanted to be a lawyer… Not cos I loved it but family norms… U know what I mean. On a second thought I figured out that wasn’t me. I could be the girl that argues but I’m never a lawyer…a critic maybe☺… I’ve gotten to know how I love watching people buy good stuffs for their money worth, love watching advert placement, making changes here and there and I decided on marketing… Y marketing? Exactly the question my dad asked… But y sit in a firm going through cases of criminals… When I could study cases of what people should buy, when, how and buy what means they buy… To decipher what methods to endear them into making such purchases
#ps I have cute cousins and they are barristers and aspirants too. I love them so…
I’m so much focused on getting bigger and better in my field… Owning my own advertising firm one day…#dreamstoreality…

I sincerely appreciate your comment. I’m happy you got to know who you are and what exactly interests you before it was too late and I hope people learn from your story. I bet your cousins love you and are proud of you too. Thank you so much for stopping by.
